Amir Khan will have to wait a little longer to fight Manny Pacquiao as the Filipino superstar has opted to instead fight Timothy Bradley for a third time in Vegas.
The fight, which is set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 9th, has been explained as “a done deal” by Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum in comments made to the Manila Times.
‘We took a lot of consideration knowing Bradley has improved a lot as a fighter since the last time they met in 2014.”
The pair has fought twice before, with Bradley winning in June 2012 and Pacquaio emerging victorious after a rematch in April 2014.
Arum says the fight was finalized after he reached an agreement with Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz, to send a $2 million advance against his $20 million guaranteed purse.
Pacquiao will have been out of the ring for almost a year when he faces Bradley having undergone shoulder surgery following his defeat by Floyd Mayweather last May.
The Pacquiao Bradley fight had been tipped to be Pacquiao’s last, but Arum has insisted that he could carry on.
“I don’t want to say that it’s his last fight,” said Arum. “I’m not going to sell it as that because I don’t want everybody to say, ‘Hey, it’s his last fight, come and see it!’ and then it turns out that it’s not his last fight.
“Who the hell knows with these guys? They all change their minds so I’m not selling it as his last fight. He says it’s his last fight but who the hell knows?”
Although neither of the first two bouts set the world alight, Arum believes Bradley is a different fighter since hiring ESPN television analyst Teddy Atlas as his trainer.
