Skill-Based Games Developed by Architect Gets Go Ahead from Nevada Gaming Commission

Last Thursday, the Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously accepted a gaming equipment engineering and dispersal license to one of the world’s top casino architects, now developing skill-based casino games.

Las Vegas-based Paul Steelman, who is the brain behind casinos from the Strip to Vietnam and Macau, told representatives that he is venturing into skill-based game design with a subsidiary to his architectural establishment called Competition Interactive LLC.

Steelman’s firm has been in operation for 30 years and has 250 employees worldwide, 150 of which are in Southern Nevada. Ten of these workers have been dedicated to Competition Interactive.

Tony Alamo, who is the Gaming Commission Chairman, said that Steelman officials would keep an eye on the company since it operates in countries that don’t have boundaries as severe as Nevada’s.

“We felt comfortable that he would do his due diligence,” Alamo expressed shortly after the meeting. “He knows that it’s not the trouble we get into but the trouble that other people get us into that concerns us.”

In a February 8 state Gaming Control Board consultation, members, who collectively voted to indorse consent of the licensing, proposed that his company should progress regulatory acquiescence measures to forestall possible glitches within the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act due to the fact that Steelman liaises with partners in countries where supervisors have seen hitches in the past, specifically Vietnam and Russia. Board members stressed that they found no problems in Steelman’s background check.

Competition Interactive illustrated rave reviews at last year’s Global Gaming Expo, where it exhibited its first game, “Running Rich Racing,” which will probably be the company’s first game for field testing and licensing.

The game is a skill-based road-racing game with a betting element. Gaming watchdogs approved skill-based gaming last year.
