From sushi burritos to ramen and matcha. When it comes to gastronomy Vegas has it all. Las Vegas adopted all the biggest food trends of 2016 and made them bigger, better and even more scrumptious! Of course, as always, 702 ENT wanted to get in on the action and decided to list the top food trends, treats and restaurants that Las Vegas went crazy for this year:
Sushi Burritos
It’s like a dream come true for the ultimate foodie: two of Las Vegas’ most popular foods coming together to make one weird yet delicious, multi-ethnic hybrid. Sushi burritos became a craze in recent months, with sushi and poke restaurants across the valley embracing the new trend with arms wide open.
Featuring a vast variety of raw fish, cooked chicken, rice, guacamole, tortillas and seaweed, the Sushi Burrito is a wrap that incorporates both flavor profiles.
Ramen
After gaining a huge popularity in 2016, this noodle soup is often served with pork, boiled egg, bean sprouts and lots and lots of noodles. This summer, even Red Robin hopped on the ramen bandwagon with their ramen burger.
Matcha
Last year, you saw virtually everything dipped, drenched or drizzled with matcha. This finely ground green tea powder is a richer, smokier version of the green tea. Its bitter taste is best balanced in sweetened, Asian-inspired teas and treats.
Rolled ice cream
The velvety and creamy frozen treat harvested massive fame on social media, mainly due to how satisfying the rolling process is to watch. While the practice was created in Thailand, rolled ice cream came to Las Vegas just last December. Rolled Ice Cream, 9484 W. Flamingo Rd. #165, won’t have its official grand opening until mid-January, yet people still line up outside the shop for nearly two hours to get their hands on the coveted rolled treats.
Rolled Ice Cream uses a secret family recipe to produce the ice cream. The cream is then poured onto a frozen metal surface and customers select the flavors they want mixed in. Later the ice cream is smoothed out and rolled into tight spirals.
Cotton Candy-topped Drinks
These candy-topped teas gained rave reviews online for their fluffy, tasty and oh, so pretty appearance. While the trend is mostly offered in California, Las Vegans can get it at Loftti Cafe, 7729 S. Rainbow Blvd. The cotton candy, ingenuously referred to at Loftti as a “cloud,” is offered atop all their drinks as well as their frozen cotton candy, their version on shaved snow.
Ice cream Sandwiches
With its many different variations, one of the most popular forms of ice cream has been that sandwiched between two cookies. Loads of Las Vegans popped by at CREAM when it opened back in 2015. What’s more, we can expect a lot more in the empire of all things ice cream and cookie now that Milk Bar opened at the end of last year.
Donut Bar’s Creme Brulee Doughnut
After a video of the doughnut went viral on Facebook, Las Vegas’ Donut Bar had to work like a dog to keep up with the demand. “That video of the doughnut got 10 million views on Facebook,” explained the company’s Chef, Jeff. “We used to make 30 of those a day. Now we make 200 a day and we still sell out. They’re easily our most popular doughnut.” Jeff continued.
