First Time in Las Vegas? Here’s What to Expect

So you’ve finally booked your long-awaited holiday in Las Vegas – Congratulations! You’re in for a fantastic and memorable experience.

Unforgettable restaurants, an abundance of shopping centers and attractions, incredible shows, and unlimited parties; there’s never a dull moment in Sin City. Here are some things to know before your arrival at The City of Lights.

Distances are larger than they appear
Although a walk along the Strip’s fun and elevated walkways is something that everyone should experience, don’t count on walking as your main means of transport. The Strip itself is over four miles long, and the distances between hotels are much longer than they first appear. Be sure to think ahead and plan any necessary travel arrangements. If you decide to walk anyway, we recommend that you leave your party heels at home, and wear your most comfy walking shoes!

If you’re counting on a taxi to get somewhere, make sure to leave plenty of waiting time. There have been countless incidents where people were late to a show or dinner with friends because they did not factor in the waiting-time for a taxi to arrive. Allow anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on where you’re going and where you currently are.

Be prepared for all temperatures
Although the sun is scorching in the middle of summer with temperatures as high as 100°, you’ll still be better off carrying a light jacket or jumper with you; casinos and other places tend to overcompensate by blasting the AC, so you’re bound to freeze when you step inside. When you’re outside, however, be sure to carry plenty of water and sunscreen. With all the walking involved, plus the excessive heat, you’re bound to get dehydrated and rather tanned, so think ahead and stock up.

Avoid peak dinner times
In Las Vegas, the heaviest dinner times are between 6:00 and 8:00. If your daily schedule isn’t too tight, try to have an earlier or later dinner to avoid the dining “rush-hour”. Particularly if you are going to a buffet, waiting lines can get somewhat out of hand and you can be waiting for multiple hours, which could have been better served elsewhere.

Relax and keep an open mind
No matter how organized you are, when in Las Vegas, things might not always go directly to plan. In this adult paradise, it’s best to be open to anything and simply go with the flow. You never know what you’ll encounter on the Strip, but that’s part of the fun! Sometimes, winging it might lead you to something cool that you would not have discovered otherwise.

At the end of the day, remember that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, so whether you set out on your Las Vegas adventure to party like a VIP or to relax and unwind, be sure to take photos of everything and have a great time!
