To date, there’s still a great deal of secret regarding Las Vegas’ new NHL development franchise. What’s known for sure is, that the team will formally join the association with its opening season in 2017-2018, and it’ll be based in the Western Conference. But we don’t yet officially know anything about their name and logo, or what it will look like and who will be on the schedule.
However, luckily, we’ll soon be finding out a few of these things. The franchise is holding an event on 22nd November, where the team name and logo will be revealed to a crowd located in the plaza outside T-Mobile Arena, the team’s new home on the Strip. Bill Foley who is the Las Vegas team’s owner and NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman are reported to participate in the launch. What’s more, general manager George McPhee will also be joining and the event and new team merchandise will be available.
According to many rumours, the team will be integrating “Knights” into the name. Indeed, last month, Foley communicated with ESPN’s Scott Burnside stating that the expansion team’s name would be the “something Knights” since Foley is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Foley has trademarked three names – the Golden Knights, the Silver Knights, and the Desert Knights – but has promised to keep the winning name undisclosed until the unveiling. Additionally, the color scheme would most probably include steel gray, gold and black, Foley explained to Burnside: “Because it’s Knights, there’s obviously going to be some steel gray somewhere. Probably have some gold because that makes sense, and most teams have black.”
In August, the registering of several domain names showed that the tenure group was seriously contemplating on calling the team the Desert Knights. Whether that is the name that they ultimately decided on, we’ll have to wait a few more weeks to discovering.
