New Touristic Attraction Lucky Dragon is all Fired Up!

Although having opened a fortnight ago, Lucky Dragon hotel-casino, launched its official, formal event last Saturday afternoon. Honoring the occasion, the event was complemented with ear-ringing pyrotechnics and percussion, and limber dancers, aptly dressed as lucky dragons. The hotel president Andrew Fonfa, is already considering an expansion of the casino, parking garage and hotel tower. Perhaps scheduling for that development will be postponed at least until Month 2.

To date, Lucky Dragon is the first ground-up resort to open in Las Vegas since Cosmopolitan was launched back in December 2010. Nevertheless, it’s actually the second hotel to open in the past week: Last Thursday, W Las Vegas unlocked its doors in the existing Lux Tower of SLS. The W brand will help accelerate the pulse of business on the north end of the Strip.

Fonfa claimed that Lucky Dragon’s local customer base should be around 60%, with another 20% coming from California and the remainder arriving from China. The new direct routes from Beijing to Las Vegas on Hainan Airlines will assist in delivering eager Asian gamblers to the resort.

While in many cultures gambling is seen as some sort of evil vice according to Fonfa, but stated that “for the Chinese, it’s entertainment, and every day could be your lucky day.” Interestingly, he has already observed that the Asian players are “very good – almost too good. We want them to win, but not every day.”

Lucky Dragon is hard-focused on dining and playing, and this is evident with its five Asian-themed restaurants, upscale spa, 203 guest rooms and small-scale (27,500 square feet), octagon-shaped casino.

It’s pretty clear that the target is the Asian market, or those who appreciate such a colorful culture. The front-of-house staff even speaks Cantonese and Mandarin apart from English, and the dichotomy of the directional signage in Chinese and English, are already well-known facets of Lucky Dragon. Fonfa addressed the fact that loves the novel concept that Asians are coming to Vegas, and that they need to be prepared for that language in signage, which is an aspect they acknowledged from the start.
